Default April Fools Anyone?

{reprinted from 03/31/08 newsletter}

"The first of April, some do say
Is set apart for All Fool's Day;
But why the people call it so
Nor I, nor they themselves, do know,
But on this day are people sent
On purpose for pure merriment."
[--Poor Robin's Almanac (1790)--]

I LOVE this idea..."on this day are people sent, on purpose for pure merriment!" Would it not be wonderful, if each day our only purpose was to completely enjoy life?!? WOW! Just think of that for a moment. Though not very practical, I know, but perhaps if each morning we put on our "merriment" hat and went about our business, we would find that we took life a little less seriously and had a bit more fun. Let's use this day - April 1st, aka April Fool's Day, to give it a try! Play a sweet little trick on someone you love, let a smidgen of frivolity into your life, giggle at the fun of it all. Pretend you are a child again and tell someone they have a "spider on their arm!" Embrace the merriment of the day, you'd be a fool not to.

Do you have a fun trick or prank to share, or perhaps you've been on the receiving end of an April Fool's high jinks? I'd love to hear about it! Simply post your thoughts here before 11:59:59 pm (est) April 5, and one of you will win an embellishment of your choice.

take care,
deann

ps - i'm planning on starting the day with a bit of a 'surprise' -- placing colored bath tablets in the facet so when the boys turn on the water, it will be blue! Gummy worms tucked into their apples at lunchtime and if i get real ambitious, i'd love to fix this for dinner! have fun!! (and tell me all about it!)

In college, we all were playing Truth or Dare, and I dared my friend to kiss me, and right as he was about to plant one on me, I said, "April Fools". It was funny to everyone else, but in retrospect, I suppose it was kind of mean to my friend.

I don't really have a trick nowadays... April Fools took a different meaning after 2004... tomorrow (April 1st) is my little girl's birthday... so we just CELEBRATE... BUT when I was youg I did lots of things... one year I went to school with my arm on a fake cast... here in Brazil April Fools is known as the Day of the Lie... all my friends believed I had broken my arm... it was kind of fun...

Hi, I thought I'd pop in and say your newsletter link didn't take me here. It took me to start my own new thread. Is that part of the April Fools? LOL

When my kids were smaller (about 7 and 4) I carried them into different beds during the night while they were asleep. My son woke up in my daughter's bed and vice versa. They thought it was hilarious and they still ask if I'm going to do this each year. Since they are 15 and 12 now I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to carry either one of them now! LOL!

heehee - this is cute! i'll have to remember it for when the kids are a bit older

i don't do anything for april fool's - but when i used to work there was someone in my office who would color the telephone (the part you speak into) with black marker - so that after you finished talking you had marker all over your face ... LOL - that was NOT really that funny!

I'm the site administrator of an on-line local mommy support forum. Well today I made this LONG sappy announcement about how I just can't do it all, be a mom, site admin, wife, scrapper, employee, ect.. and that I would be stepping down in two weeks. Then in a thread under that I put "PS... I just wanted to say" and in another post under that I put "April Fools". I had SO many responces. It was funny to see that every really belived me and it was also nice to see that they still want me as their Site Admin too

My step-daughter posted on MySpace a pretty convincing post that she was pregnant. I usually don't read other's comments about a post but its a good thing that I read the comments this time or I would've given her daddy a heart attack! LOL It was funny, though.
